I put down a base of acrylic black spray paint over a ground of gesso on masonite. Then I traced a plate to get anice circle for the planet and used a circle template for the planet. I then put down a texture with a layer of sculpting paste (acrylic). made the craters with the blunt ends of pencils, brushes, etc. After the paste dried I began lating in the base color with a mixture of raw sienna, cadmium red light, and burnt sienna. To bring out the craters I glazed the area with burnt umber and raw umber. I wiped some of this glaze off with a rag to bring up the highlights. The spacecraft is straight acrylic paint and is yet to be finished.
This is a very interesting piece… How did you do it?
